Join John Hellums, the current VP of ACRP, and Bishop Lifting Products at the Association of Crane & Rigging Professionals (ACRP) 2012 Workshop and General Assembly on May 8-11 in Cleveland, Ohio.  The workshop will include training strategies, educational workshops and technical presentations from members of the crane & rigging community.  The workshop and assembly will take place at the Cleveland Airport Marriott.  This is a great opportunity for ACRP members and crane & rigging professionals to network and participate in industry workshops.

Top Trainer Submission Date Extended


Top Trainer Award

Realizing that effective training will continue to play a critical role in the overall safety of crane and rigging operations, Crane Hot Line will recognize the industry’s top trainers in an awards program to be featured in the November 2011 issue.

Trainers will be recognized for having a positive impact on students, the work environment or the industry through the use of innovative training techniques or hands-on instruction, by encouraging peer or corporate accountability, and/or through quantitative evidence that the training was successful. The Crane Hot Line Top Trainer program is endorsed by the Association of Crane and Rigging Professionals (ACRP).

OBJECTIVE
Publicly recognize both corporate and professional trainers who have excelled in their profession.

CRITERIA
• Nominations must be made by individuals who have received training from the candidate or by the trainer’s superior.
• Trainer must be involved in crane, rigging, lifting or construction safety training.
• Trainer must have been actively engaged in training between Aug. 1, 2010 and July 31, 2011.

SUBMISSION
Submit entries to Tracy Bennett, tbennett@cranehotline.com, by September 1, 2011.

Recognitions will be made in two categories. Professional trainers are those whose primary employer is a training company. Corporate trainers are those
whose primary employer is a construction company, crane rental company, manufacturer, or other industry-related business.

Honorees will be selected by the editorial staff in both categories. Honorees will be interviewed for a feature article to appear in the November 2011 issue of Crane Hot Line. Questions? Call 816-536-7903.

John Hellums Named New VP of ACRP

John Hellums, Business Development for Petrochemical and Refining, at BLP was sworn in as the new Vice President for Associated Crane & Rigging Professionals (ACRP) on May 10, 2011. John will be working with the past Vice President, and new President, Scott Fleming with UniRope Ltd. during his one year term.

John has committed his career to the lifting industry. He worked for ExxonMobile for 25 years before he joined Bishop Lifting in May of 2003. John has also been an active member, co-chair, and chairman of Houston Business Roundtable since 1987 and an active member with NCCCO since 2000.

We are extremely proud of John for his dedication to the crane and rigging industry and wish him the best of luck!

HBR Crane & Rigging News - March 8, 2011

Houston Business Roundtable48 members were present at the Houston Business Roundtable (HBR) Crane & Rigging subcommittee meeting today. Members discussed articles on safe lifting and rigging, industry news and events, and Jim Shelton, an OSHA Compliance Officer, gave an update on crane incidents.  Jack Pettyjohn, with The University of Texas at Arlington, was the guest speaker for today’s meeting and discussed “Setting Cranes near Excavations” and the safety measures that need to be taken into account. 

John Hellums, co-chairman of the Crane & Rigging subcommittee, distributed three crane & rigging standards articles.  These articles can be viewed below. 

Team and player registration for the HBR Golf Tournament on April 5th has begun! The tournament will take place at Timber Creek Country Club in Friendswood, Texas.  Tournament is limited to the first 50 teams so make sure your team has a spot! Sign up here.

The next HBR meeting will be April 12th, at 8:00am, at the Austin Industries Building 8031 Airport Blvd. Suite 118. The topic will be presented by Pete Donnelly, with Texas City Safety Council, on Concrete Pumper Truck Safety.

Association of Crane & Rigging ProfessionalsOther Industry News: The Association of Crane & Rigging Professionals (ACRP) General Assembly Meeting will take place in Milwaukee, Wisconsin from May 10th through May 13th. Members and non-members are invited to attend to stay informed on all the new crane and rigging operations taking place in our industry. John Hellums and other Bishop Lifting Products, Inc. employees will be in attendance and hope to see you there!
